Services offered
Expert editing tailored for art publications and exhibitions
Copyediting & proofreading
I edit Word documents (e.g., essays, image information, promotional material), correcting at the word and paragraph level, marking up corrections in track changes.
I offer structural, technical, and grammatical advice and feedback, adhering to the client's style guide.
I make sure to offer clear, constructive feedback for authors and am available to answer any queries along the way. Usually, there are a few drafts that go back and forth before a clean document is finalised.
At the proofreading phase, I mark up the final proofs of documents that have now been designed and laid out in PDF. Again, a few versions can go back and forth until the project is signed off.

Proofreading only
I mark up PDFs of documents that have been copyedited in-house by an institution (either a publisher or a gallery), identifying any final corrections to be made and ensuring material complies with the institution's style guides.
I proofread exhibition collateral, including labels, captions, lists of works, bibliographies, biographies, etc.
I find that clients really appreciate having a fresh set of eyes going over material at this final stage of the process.
I am available to write essays, captions, labels, didactic panels, exhibition reviews, promotional material (online and printed), and style guides
Previous projects have ranged from 100-word online exhibition labels to a 50,000-word book.

FAQs
What services do you offer?
I provide copyediting and proofreading tailored for art publications and exhibition materials. I also offer writing services, both for online and print platforms.
Who are your typical clients?
I work for galleries, museums, and other cultural institutions across Australia, but also occasionally for artists, writers, or freelance curators directly. I have also worked with curators and writers based in international institutions.
How do you ensure accuracy in your work?
I edit in multiple stages, first working on hardcopy, then taking edits in electronically. I work closely with clients to maintain clarity and consistency, and offer constructive feedback. I am a stickler for style guides and for looking things up (names, dates, terminology). After 16 years of editing, I have honed my editing and proofreading skills.
What is your turnaround time?
Turnaround depends on project size; I’ll provide a clear timeline up front. I pride myself on my efficiency and ability to meet each client's goals.
Can you handle large projects?
Yes, I frequently work on 100,000-word documents in my other profession as a thesis editor. For art galleries, book projects are usually around 10,000 to 20,000 words, but I also regularly copyedit short essays for commercial galleries, which are about 500 to 1000 words in length. No job is too big or too small!
How do I get started with your services?
Simply send me an email with an outline of your project, and I’ll respond promptly to discuss the details further with you.
